Wisconsin Family Road Trip

by JFD

About a week ago my family took off on a family road trip to Wisconsin on a Thursday morning. The plan was to get to our cousins' house in Viroqua, WI in time for dinner. The trip went well as usual, and after dinner we headed to a local school to see the Waldorf School's 8th Grade Class Production of William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing", which one of my cousins just happened to star in (you were great Erin!!). The play was a hit and VERY funny! The next day, Friday, we just kind of chilled, talked with Grandma, had some quality cousin time and watched a movie. Then, on Friday night we went to a performance by the political traveling theatre company, "Bread & Puppet Theatre", a troupe that travels the world performing shows that communicate political messages through the use of MASSIVE puppets. Friday night's performance focused mainly on war and the side effects caused by the government's choices. There weren't a whole lot of puppets on this specific tour, but it was still pretty cool! The next morning at about 9 am we headed for home with the youngest member of the our cousin's family, Kevin, who was born just 10 days before my little brother Gabe. Kevin stayed with us for a week and then headed back on Monday.
It was a total blast!

The Summer Ahead
by John

This summer is going to be so intense. My brothers and I are all going to try out for Gooseberry Park Player's production of "Hood: The Musical, the new legend of Robin Hood"; the auditions for that are May 18, 19 and 20. In addition to that, I will be taking several classes in the morning at Trollwood Performing Arts School, which is another theatrical opportunity for kids interested in doing theatre over the summer. The plan is to bike to Trollwood at 7:00 and attend three June Session class periods, in which I'll be taking Morning Movement/Yoga Fusion, Modern Dance 1, and Jazz Dance 1. I will then bike to Gooseberry, which is on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, on the Red River bike path during part of the lunch hour, and I'll be rehearsing there with my brothers until around 4:30 or 5:00. Talk about a full day! Also, our family is heading to Georgia in August for our Ford Family Reunion, which is a highlight of our summer every few years. Unfortunately there is no room for Cooperstown Bible Camp, but hey, you can't do everything!

Forum Route Update
By: Gabe

I am going to tell you about what it was like doing the Forum route over the holiday season. On Thanksgiving day the papers were the biggest of the year because there were so many ads for the day after Thanksgiving. On Christmas day we got to the Forum center and there were pancakes, sausages, orange juice and gloves(!) from our district manager (and the papers were small!). On New Year’s Day we stayed up at home after two parties and watched the movie Ground Hog’s Day and then went to do the paper route at 2:30 a.m. After that we slep for a long time! Around Christmas we got $136.00 in tip money plus we got chocolates and candies. People were really nice to us. It really helps to know that most of the money I am making is going towards Flight School. Well that's all for now folks. Bye!

Macbeth or, "The Scottish Play"
by John Ford-Dunker

I have recently landed the role of Macduff in Fargo South High School's February production of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth". As of late, we have had minimal meetings and rehearsals for the production, but solid rehearsals have just begun and will be steady through January and most of February. This is the first Shakespeare production that I have worked on, so I am very excited about in for a number of reasons.

First, I play Macduff, a Scottish nobleman who wishes to overthrow Macbeth, the title character who has murdered Macduff's wife and children, and others. I'm really excited to play the role of Macduff, seeing as he is a strong male lead and will give me lots of material to explore and animate, something I have not yet experienced on such a high level but have greatly desired to.

I worked with Mrs. Stark, the director, earlier this year on "My Fair Lady", and now she's bringing her husband on board with all of his artful and theatrical genius to build the costumes for the show. The costumes in themselves will be extremely unique. We'll be taking all sorts of clothing, cloth, and other materials and turning them into elaborate pieces of work by way of dying, ripping, tearing, hot-gluing, painting, etc, creating something truly unique from the traditional Shakespearean dress.

Another thing that I'm really looking forward to (though not as much as my mother!) is the stage combat. The show features 5 battles/fight scenes which scale everywhere from a small backstabbing sequence, to two full fledged, full on battles, to the climactic fight scene between Macbeth and Macduff. We've already started on all that, but I'm not going to spoil it for you! You have to see the show!!!

I'd appreciate your prayers throughout the next few months, as I will be dedicating a large amount of my time to this production. The official show dates are February 22, 23, and 24. I'll keep you posted in terms of exact ticket details for those of you that don't already know.

Thanks for your prayers!

John
